Reproductive secretions of musk deers inhabiting China, the Himalayas, Tibet, etc. When diluted, it has a unique aroma. Since ancient times, it has been used not only as an incense ingredient but also as a Chinese herbal medicine. Kousaido’s musk reproduces the slightly sweet and complex scent using a unique blend including benzoin and sandalwood.

In Japan, incense was traditionally used as medicine. During the Nara period, a Chinese monk came to Japan with sandalwood, agarwood, musk and other ingredients to treat illness. The scent of incense affects the mind, reducing inner anxiety, anger, tension, and nervousness and creating a sense of refreshing calm, like after meditation.
Since ancient Nara and Heian times, Japan has prized these delicate scents and recognised their medicinal value. Only superior grade incense is used for it’s medicinal purpose. The higher the quality the greater the effect.
